Has anyone heard about new concrete walls that are to be installed on the front and back stretch? I think it may be a nascar mandate or something. The turns will remain armco barrier. At least that's the latest I've heard about it.

I think the concrete is a good idea. That Armco is in such bad shape it grabs you when you hit it. I definately DO NOT want to hit that stuff in a Champ Kart. The only problem with the concrete is if it breaks from an impact how do you fix it so we can go racing again quickly ?

I personally have said this for quite some time. The original intent of the armco was great. Now when you hit it, you hit the beams behind it. I bent a rear last year because it "hooked" instead of just glancing off. I am very much in favor of concrete. With a concrete specialist on the BOD I would think they could get a discount too. Unless they have already started, it won't happen this year.

I've had to sit through plenty of delays because of walls getting messed up at the Bowl, and as long as they do a halfway decent job with concrete walls it shouldn't be an issue at all with them breaking.

I stand corrected. It will happen this year. The Speedbowl got a capital improvement grant from NASCAR. Awesome stuff. Maybe new Armco in the turns while they are at it?

Does anyone know what will happen to turn 4. A dead on 90 degree concrete wall is not such a great idea... :? :!: :? ... is safer barriers like Stafford out of the question??? The concrete walls would be great.... especially for the open wheeled cars... Ive seen mods at Stafford "wheel hop" the back stretch and still finish the race. Plus the old armco walls are very unsafe... I remember an Xmod split the armco and was stuck in.

Would concrete walls be bad in the turns? I wonder why they're not doing them.

Shawn's blog piece... for those of you that didnt see it.

as far as what will be done in the turns and coming outta turn 4, Im sure all possibilities will be examined. I dont think a safer barrier is possible from a cost stand point (speedbowl budget remember...) and the space that is there coming out of the chute. I think its one step at a time, and with the time frame... the walls on the straits is about all they'll be able to get done. The time table has been set that these walls will be completed JUST IN TIME for the opener...

and some advice, don't lean on them when you first pull in for the opener because that paint will still be wet... thats how close the time frame takes it
