Everyone knows tonights mod race sucked. I think the worst thing ever at the bowl is single file restarts. They were wrecking more before they got to the green flag. I don't know if it's just me but I don't pay to watch single file restarts and if that keeps happening I don't know if I'm going to pay to watch. I understand it was a wreck fest and they did it to try and prevent more wrecks but I think it may have caused more and made it pretty boring considering it was red checkered with 23 laps to go.

They wanted them to get going.

Double file restarts woulda just caused more wrecks.

Sure it was called with 23 laps to go, but it got the biggest cheer ever from us standing in the pits in turns one and two. That race just needed to end.

well i love the modifeds and while i actualy have seen worse that was pretty bad. while i hate single file starts what else could they have done? chalk it up to a bad night and move on.

But how about mr tv superstar? could they have done a worse job? people were lined up waiting to for the dude to come out and they announce no autograph session? he can go back to nc for all i care but people bought tickets because he was there and the track just slapped em in the face. if anyone wants his autograph just go to thompson today, they wont cancel they're session.

thats all i got......Cra**y night at the bowl

I didn't realize there was to be an autograph session for Burt Myers. :?: Did I miss the advertisement or announcement that he was going to do autographs?

I know the schedule change (in feature lineup) caught me by surprise, but I honestly didn't expect an autograph session myself. I didn't think there would be enough time in Myers busy Saturday schedule to make it happen.

yup they had a booth set up with flags and all that and people were all lined up and they canceld it and too my knowledge didnt even say why. i may have missed the reason but alot of very un-happy paying customers. could have easliy had him come out for 30 min or so during the long delay after the go-kart race. To me he was last nights attraction and they did not do a good job at all. sold alot of t-shirts though

Track e-mailed me saying there was no session scheduled so thats cool. but what i wonder is why people were lined up waiting and came back up mad? beats me sounds like poor communication over all. I arrived late and couldnt hear for 1/2 the night so i just went with what some others around me were saying. maybe they just assumed....you know what they say about assuming.....

If it was poor communication, it was the stands, not the Tracks fault. I heard about the line forming at the t-shirt booth for autographs, while I was in the pits. We thought it was funny in a way. I'm sure it was the whole "telephone game" thing that got it started. goes something like this.... booth is put up.... someone says "hey, cool, selling t-shirts", wonder if they could get Burt to do autographs" " I heard they might" "I heard he will" ,"hey, the booth for autographs is up", "hey, the line for Burt Meyer's autograph is starting" "he's giving autographs tonight?, yep, the booth is up" etc, etc.

As far as the single file restart thing, I have seen that many times at many tracks. It is done in the interest of getting the race STARTING clean, when a division is having problems getting thru restarts. It is usually done toward the end of a race. If you were dissapointed about "paying for single file restarts", then I'd like to hear how you feel about 9 cautions in 12 laps (out of a scheduled 35) over the course of an hour and a half. We would have been there til midnight or 5 cars left in the race. I'm betting on midnight winning, with maybe less than 5 cars left.

the track will take a lot of grief for all of this, and that is very unfortunate. The track is the facility. They have many competent people doing a great job. The racers put on "the show". When they put on a bad one, why does the track get the blame. Should we start blaming the bowling alley, if we don't bowl a high score?, blame the baseball stadium for the blowout game, or player errors?

The track did away with top 10-12 in points being handicapped and we have bad rows of cars in the mix that shouldn't be there yet. I'm sure the handicap rule will be back next week. I'm sure some thinking about who gets to start up front should/will be thought about also.

well i sit in the stands all the time and they always have speaker problems. either matt is so loud you have to cover your ears or then you cant even hear the other guy. or it just goes out all together and comes back on. can hardly ever hear the in pit interviews for various reasons. maybe its just my sittig location and other people have no audio issues. track actualy told me listen to it on they're radio station.... i found that rather funny. i think id rather see and not hear than to listen and not see.

Just a thought here though wouldn't have made sense to just have made a clear point on website during all the hype to say no autograph session will be taking place? seems to me if it was known there would not be one people would not have mistakin that booth with the line for what is was not.
Now i did arrive late this week so if an announcement was made in the stands regarding this then its all good. But everybody i spoke to that was upset said no announcement was made or couldnt hear if it was.

Bottom line right or wrong alot of people left with a sour taste in they're mouth and thats just not a good thing. gotta give em a reason to come back rather than a reason not to.

Alright, I gotta chime in here - this whole autograph thing is cranking me up. I was around Myers pit all night like a wannabe papparazzi and the BOD (minus Tommy who had his own issues on the track) and there was never a plan for autographs. Never. They mentioned maybe... maybe if the night went well and he was up for it afterwards they'd approach him, but as we all know, the night went anything but well. I'm with Steve, that whole thing was a total telephone-game deal. I'm thinking the track got wind of people misinterpreting the set-up for Myers' merchandise and made the announcement so it was clear there wasn't an autograph session. Funny how that turns into them cancelling it with no explanation! Ay-yi-yi

I actually thought Burt Myers was a nice guy and handled the mob-scene around his pit stall pretty well. He signed everything he was asked to by fans, he took a picture with anyone who asked, he chatted with Terry, he signed all his paperwork for Tommy's crew, he did interview with me, Blogger Boy and Baribault. He's definitely used to all the hype Madhouse gave his team and he worked it well.

And I gotta say, the Paul family stepped up big time in support of the track - they took the risk and got no reward. That totally blows... but at the same time, they had to know that was a possibility going in, so you can chew on that to balance it out. Either way, it's just another example of how the SK night sucked!

The whole night sucked, but I'm boggled by all these different scenarios suggested as to how it's the track's fault? The night didn't suck because the track let the wrong people start up front, or because they didn't handle single-file restart options correctly, or because there was no autograph session or because speedbowl.com didn't say there wasn't one or because NASCAR's not counting points and the Speedbowl is... The track did their part. The track provided the fans with a celebrity-type competitor to watch and provided the SK Modified division the oppurtunity to race with one of the most recognizable faces in modified racing across the country - and IMO, this debacle is on the drivers and nobody else. Sorry, but it's not any simpler than that.... and nobody loves the drivers more than me! I freakin' love everyone in the pits, but the Mod guys as a whole had a golden oppurtunity to shine and totally failed. I hate to say that, but that's how I see it! Fans think it sucked! I'd bet the farm the track thinks it sucked, Paul's TV team definitely does, and I'm hoping all the SK guys are disappointed in themselves and/or their peers collectively. I'm not gonna single anyone out amongst the drivers, what's the point? Found out who sucked worse than who? and yeah, Ronnie and Tyler and Gaydosh and a couple others managed to stay clean and finish - big woop. For 13 laps?? Staying clean for 13 laps?? really?? That's the best we could show on a big stage? a handful of our weekly guys could stay clean for 13 laps??? who cares??

Sorry - had to get that out. I'm not trying to bash anyone in particular, I think the division as a whole takes a hit.

It goes to show how big the Modifieds are and why they're the headlining division. Their debacle overshadows other great moments that night in other divisions. Who wasn't rooting for Christina to win that MS race? I hate to think of all who left in disgust after the SK's and missed Bruce & Timmy in another epic side-by-side battle for the LM win? Or Josh Galvin getting redemption after last week's disaster. I mean, that's how big the SK's are - when they're bad, the rest of the night gets forgotten....

Okay - back to the program, just venting...
Peace
