Speedbowl hosts Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday season finale

Waterford, CT (September 20, 2011) – This Wednesday marks the season
finale in Waterford Speedbowl’s mid-week Wild ‘n Wacky series. The 18th
and final event of the year gets underway at 7:00pm with special 25-lap
races planned for the Bandoleros, Legends Cars, X-Cars and Super X-Cars.
In addition, an annual tradition returns at the season closer, the popular
mechanics races. Those used to crewing and wrenching on the cars will
strap into the Super X-Car and X-Cars they work on for special 12-lap
races. Another fan favorite returns as well, the Speedbowl Officials
race. A 15-lap shootout pits race officials against one another in a turn
of the tables.

Two champions still remain to be crowned. In the Super X-Cars, Quaker
Hill’s Mike Maskell seeks his first division title after several years of
competition. He takes a 13-point lead over Colchester’s Frank Alessio and
a 31-point advantage on Ed Ryan into the 25-lap feature. Maskell has
finished second in the season standings twice, including a year ago.

The X-Car title is also on the line Wednesday. Westerly, RI competitor
Randy Johnston holds a slim 3-point lead over Niantic’s Pete Zaikarite.
Both are seeking their first championship. Division veteran and two-time
champion Brad Voglesong of Middletown is still very much alive just
12-points back.

Two track championships were clinched a week ago, with Dana Dimatteo and
Rachel Forte wrapping up their first career Speedbowl titles. Dimatteo,
of Farmington, captured the Legends Cars crown in his third season of
competition in the division. He is 16 years-old. Forte, of Douglas, MA
finished her second season in the Bandolero division at the top. She
becomes the second consecutive female track champion in the division and
second in Speedbowl history. Forte is just 12 years-old.

Ticket prices are $7 for adult grandstands admission, with all youth age
14 and under admitted free. For more details and schedule of events for
