300 laps of racing in mid-season championship at Speedbowl
Six divisions highlight Saturday July 2 program

Waterford, CT (June 27, 2011) – The Speedbowl.com 300, an annual tradition
is up next at Waterford Speedbowl, the shoreline’s home for NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series racing. A staple over the 4th of July holiday weekend
for over a decade, the mid-season event offers race fans one of the
season’s marquee events on Saturday, July 3. In all, 300 laps of feature
racing will be on display among six divisions.

A 100-lap feature for the SK Modified© division takes center stage on a
racing card that also includes extra distance events for the Bob Valenti
Auto Mall Late Models, Street Stocks and Norwich Bulletin Mini Stocks.
Each will battle in 50-lappers. The racing stars of the future round out
the night’s action, as the Legends Cars and Bandolero divisions will go
30-laps and 20-laps in distance respectively.

As the 2011 season reaches its mid-point another year of highly
competitive NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing is underway at the
‘Bowl. Many memorable feature race battles have already been staged at
the three-eighths mile oval with many more surely on their way. To date,
41 NASCAR features have been completed with 24 different drivers taking a
down a checkered flag. The Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models have seen
only one driver repeat in winner’s column, spreading out the hardware and
keeping that championship point race tight.

Intense point battles are a trend across the track’s NASCAR divisions,
showcasing the great racing to date this season. The SK Modifieds© have
1998 point titlist Jeff Pearl atop the standings. He has recorded two
wins on the year to date. Five competitors are within striking distance
of Pearl on any given night. Keith Rocco, last year’s track and NASCAR
Whelen All-American Series national champion, is the closest to Pearl
sitting 23 marks back. Bruce Thomas Jr., the only Bob Valenti Auto Mall
Late Model competitor to repeat in Victory Lane thus far, leads his
division standings by a scant 8 points over Jeff Smith. Defending Street
Stock division champion Al Stone used a pair of wins at this past
Saturday’s event to pull even with Ed Puleo atop the points in the Street
Stocks. Glenn Colvin, the 2004 Mini Stock champion, is back for a full
season in the popular and always competitive 4-cylinder division and leads
the standings with the most cushion of any at the track – 47 points ahead
of three-time champion Ken Cassidy Jr.

Qualifying for the mid-season Speedbowl.com 300 by way of time trials gets
started at 5:00pm with main events and opening ceremonies beginning at
6:30pm with the Bandolero feature. Grandstands admission is $25 for
adults, just $5 for youth age 6 through 14 and free for all kids under age
6.
