I can't believe Scott Tapley is actually enforcing a rule. Good for him and good for the rest of the SK teams.

True rules are rules, but according to Keith, in the drivers meeting someone told him he just needed to take the green. Is this true? In that case the officials don't know the rules either.

I wasn't at the meeting, but I heard he was told take the initial green and then he can get out. I don't know who told him, I would assume an official.

After further questioning after the race, all he needed to do was take the green and complete one lap. He did take the green, but the quick caution allowed him to slow up and pit. Had he continued around to take the yellow flag, we wouldn't be talking about it.

hey, how about the run from last to first by Doug Coby?

from the press release

Quote:
The driver of record in the winning #88 car ended up being Coby after official review. Keith Rocco took the initial green flag at the tail of the running order, however the field only made it to turn two on the opening lap before the caution flag flew. Rocco immediately ducked into the turn three pit gate to make the driver change to Coby before coming around to take the caution flag. Per the published track rules regarding Race Procedure, “points and (prize) money will be awarded to the driver that completes the initial green flag lap.” Coby was the driver of record that completed the initial green flag lap on the track upon exiting the pit area. The ruling unofficially drops Rocco from the point lead, moving Chadwick into the top spot. Rocco slipped to fourth in the standings.

I've been hearing it was Tapley himself that told Rocco just to take the green. Sounds like he screwed up big time. This national points thing is a big deal and the race director may have just ruined Rocco's season even worse.

Did Coby win?

Nascar

Sect. 9-6 Race Start
E. When a driver change is made during a Race in order for the initial driver to receive points and prize money, the initial driver must start the Race. Otherwise, the points and prize money will be awarded to the relief driver. Driver changes will not be permitted from the start of pace laps until after the car completes its first scored lap.

Speedbowl

1.5.3 Race Start
All qualified cars must be on the track during pace laps. All Cars must drive out onto the track under their own power to start the race. Cars that are not lined up for the start of pace laps may join the rear of the field if they are on the track before the final pace lap/clenched green flag lap. Under no circumstances is any car not in the starting line-up to go on the track or enter the race after the completion of the first green flag lap, except cars which have lined up and started the pace laps. If a car drops out of the race beforethe completion of the first green flag lap, their finishing position will be determined by their starting position in relation to other drivers that do not complete the first green flag lap. During the pace laps, if a car does not maintain its designated position in the starting field, Waterford Speedbowl Officials may reposition the car at their discretion. The race begins at the commencement of pace laps, but scoring and official distance begins when the initial green flag is waved. Driver changes are permitted after the completion of the initial green flag lap only. The points and money will be awarded to the driver that completes the initial green flag lap. When the flagman gives the clenched green flag ("one lap to go" signal), cars will line up in columns of two (double file) for all restarts. The Waterford Speedbowl Officials may amend this policy at their discretion.

Both Nascar's and the Bowl's rule is in place to lock the field in from pace laps to the first completed green lap (which for me means the scoreboard goes to 34) for both relief and for drivers switching cars after they wrecked.

Doesn't matter now but the guys on the 21 might be just a bit more upset then anyone.
