Little League Night at Speedbowl May 7

Five-division program highlighted by extra-distance Street Stock race

Waterford, CT (May 6, 2011) – Suisman Shapiro Little League Night returns to Waterford Speedbowl Saturday night as part of the evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race program, continuing an annual tradition at the shoreline oval. The racing action is highlighted by five divisions including an extra-distance Street Stock feature. The visiting NEMA Lites are also part of the night, sponsored by Suisman Shapiro of New London.

Little League Night returns for its sixth consecutive year and will team ten Speedbowl racers with Little-Leaguers in their team jerseys in the Beaver Bat Homerun Derby. The pair to hit the most “homeruns” over the Speedbowl fence will be named the top sluggers. The Homerun Derby takes place after qualifying rounds of racing, at approximately 6:00pm. Each youth participant in the contest will receive a complimentary Beaver Bat.

In racing action, the Street Stock division will go 50-laps in distance, the longest the division competes in all year and double the normal weekly feature event. The division has had three winners in three events thus far in 2011 and has a reputation as one of the most competitive at the Speedbowl. Last Saturday night several drivers had a shot to win a 33-lap memorial race before 2005 champion Norm Root Jr. came out on top of a wild finish. Defending division champion Al Stone III plus other past champions Brandon Plemons and Ted Dupre figure in as factors. Ed Puleo, Josh Galvin and Ernie Larose are just some of the others intending to take the checkered flag in an early-season race carrying big bragging rights.

In addition to the Street Stocks and NEMA Lites, the SK Modifieds®, Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Models and Mini Stocks will also compete. Spectator gates open at 3:00pm with practice rounds. Qualifying begins at 5:15pm and the Beaver Bat Homerun Derby takes place at 6:00pm. Main events follow, at approximately 7:00pm. Grandstands admissions are available for $15.00 for adults, $5.00 for youth age 6 through 14, with all kids age 5 and under admitted free. All youth in attendance wearing their Little League jersey will be admitted free.

Waterford Speedbowl gift cards are now on-sale in any denomination, good towards event admission and accepted at the main concessions stand. More details including Saturday’s race day schedule of events and full 2011 schedule are available by visiting Speedbowl.com.
