Speedbowl competitor Chuck Rogers passes away

Waterford, CT (April 18, 2011) – With a heavy heart Waterford Speedbowl
management regrets to notify fans that popular competitor Chuck Rogers has
passed away unexpectedly at the age of 56. Rogers, of Quaker Hill, CT,
was commonly known in the racing community as “Uncle Buck”. He was a
regular Speedbowl competitor for the better part of the last two decades.

Rogers’ staunch passion for racing was evident to his peers and followers.
He raced between the track’s Mini Stock and Street Stock divisions for
several years, one of few able to compete regularly in more than one class
in the same season. The veteran racer will be remembered as a gentleman
on and off the track and was frequently spotted with a smile and wave for
those he knew.

“We have lost a great racer, a great friend, and truly one of the best
individuals you could ask to be around at the track” stated Terry Eames,
owner and promoter of the Speedbowl.

Rogers posted four wins from 1997 - 2008 in addition to many podium
finishes at the Speedbowl over his career. He was best known for a quiet,
consistent style that earned him top-ten honors in the final standings of
many seasons. His personal best at the ‘Bowl was a third place finish in
2003 in the Sportsman division standings. The well respected manner that
defined Rogers’ career behind the wheel earned him the 2010 Thompson
Speedway Mini Stock championship, one of his happiest and most
accomplished achievements in racing.

“’Uncle Buck’ was a true champion on and off the track” offered Race
Director Scott Tapley. “His positive and fun-loving demeanor will be
sorely missed by everyone.”

In 2011 Rogers planned on taking on a new venture, trying his craft behind
the wheel of an open-wheel Modified at the Speedbowl.

Calling hours will be held between 6:00pm and 9:00pm Friday at Mystic
Funeral Home, located at 51 Williams Avenue (Route 1) in Mystic, CT.
Donations in Rogers’ memory may be made to the Victory Junction
organization, providing life-changing experiences for kids with chronic
medical conditions or serious illnesses.
