Speedbowl competitor Chuck Rogers passes away
Waterford, CT (April 18, 2011) With a heavy heart Waterford Speedbowl management regrets to notify fans that popular competitor Chuck Rogers has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 56. Rogers, of Quaker Hill, CT, was commonly known in the racing community as Uncle Buck. He was a regular Speedbowl competitor for the better part of the last two decades.
Rogers staunch passion for racing was evident to his peers and followers. He raced between the tracks Mini Stock and Street Stock divisions for several years, one of few able to compete regularly in more than one class in the same season. The veteran racer will be remembered as a gentleman on and off the track and was frequently spotted with a smile and wave for those he knew.
We have lost a great racer, a great friend, and truly one of the best individuals you could ask to be around at the track stated Terry Eames, owner and promoter of the Speedbowl.
Rogers posted four wins from 1997 - 2008 in addition to many podium finishes at the Speedbowl over his career. He was best known for a quiet, consistent style that earned him top-ten honors in the final standings of many seasons. His personal best at the Bowl was a third place finish in 2003 in the Sportsman division standings. The well respected manner that defined Rogers career behind the wheel earned him the 2010 Thompson Speedway Mini Stock championship, one of his happiest and most accomplished achievements in racing.
Uncle Buck was a true champion on and off the track offered Race Director Scott Tapley. His positive and fun-loving demeanor will be sorely missed by everyone.
In 2011 Rogers planned on taking on a new venture, trying his craft behind the wheel of an open-wheel Modified at the Speedbowl.
Calling hours will be held between 6:00pm and 9:00pm Friday at Mystic Funeral Home, located at 51 Williams Avenue (Route 1) in Mystic, CT. Donations in Rogers memory may be made to the Victory Junction organization, providing life-changing experiences for kids with chronic medical conditions or serious illnesses.
